Sacramental life
At St. Mary's, we celebrate and embrace the rich traditions of the Catholic faith, including the important Sacraments that form a key part of our spiritual life. The Sacraments are special rites through which we grow closer to God and receive His grace. At St. Mary's, our aim is that our pupils travel on a journey of Faith alongside their journey of learning.
-
Baptism
Baptism is the first sacrament that welcomes a person into the Christian community. It symbolizes the cleansing of sin and the beginning of a new life with God. In this ceremony, water is used to mark the individual as a member of the Church and a follower of Christ. Please visit our parish website to find more information about how you can start your child's journey of Faith through Baptism. - Reconciliation
Also known as Confession, Reconciliation is the sacrament through which we seek forgiveness for our sins and receive God’s mercy. It involves confessing our sins to a priest, who offers absolution and guidance, helping us to grow spiritually and make amends. All Baptised pupils will be given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Year 3, Spring Term. Mr. Peacock will lead preparatory classes in school time and will send the relevant details out near to the time. -
Eucharist
The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is a central part of Catholic worship. It commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus with His disciples and involves receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. Through this sacrament, Catholics express their unity with Christ and each other. All pupils from year 4 onwards who have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be given the opportunity to make their First Holy Communion in Summer term. Mr. Peacock will lead preparatory classes in school time and will send the relevant details out near to the time. -
Confirmation
Confirmation strengthens the grace received at Baptism and deepens one’s commitment to the faith. During this sacrament, individuals receive the Holy Spirit, which helps them grow in their faith and become active members of the Church community. All pupils from Year 6 onwards who have received First Holy Communion will be given the opportunity to be Confirmed in the Spring term. Mrs. Nagy will lead preparatory classes in school time and will send the relevant details out near to the time.
